People who focus on "age" (overtly or with subrosa intent) forget that "data" is neither "wisdom" nor "intelligence" ... people who want their organizations to be "edgy" forget the importance of the slow, arduous journey to joy and self-fulfillment ... people who delude themselves to believe that raw, hyper-energy is a sustainable business and relationship model forget that instantaneous gratification is secondary to the awesome honor of the investment of the lives of people who have built the cacoon within which they are free to conveniently spin within a transient illusion of comfort.
Bless their hearts! It is sad, really, but was predicted 2000 years ago.
Such people make it about them - not about the soul of community; they make it about 'now' rather than about the next generation; they think themselves to be immortal and that no one has ever seen or done the things they think are new. They do not yet know that they will become the grandfathers and grandmothers whose stories are disregarded and ridiculed as being old fashioned.
I remember being them.
I am 77.
I could not have articulated the previous sentences when I was 25 and it saddens me to realize it took that long to understand it.
